My earliest memories as a little girl are all about my big dreams. Dreams to paint every color on anything that needed a story, to crochet and creat comfort all around me, to travel and see the beauty in each moment and person. Dreams to live as an artist, authentically, in any way I could.

When you grow up and tell people you want to be an artist you’re almost immediately met with negative opinions telling you, “It’s really hard to make it as an artist.” “Hardly anyone has what it takes to bust through and do well.” “You’ll have to have a real job otherwise you’ll starve and live with your parents forever.” If you’ve had big dreams, even outside of the creative world, you probably know what I’m talking about.

Those negative voices telling you you’re not good enough start early, and they’re relentless.

I wish the world was kinder. That you would feel supported in the big, bold, fun ideas you have. That you would feel safe enough to dream!

Those are my hopes for this space together!

As for me, R. L. Thomas is my artist and author name (very plainly resembling my actual name, Rachel Lynn Thomas).

I paint impressionistic florals and anything that sparks.

I write YA fantasy, poetry, and Christian living.

I play many instruments though the one that I’m most self-conscious of is my singing voice.

All to say, I hope this website serves (as I have previously stated) as a safe community to discover creativity together! Because EVEYONE deserves to LIVE THEIR DREAM. ANd also as a space where I can tangibly track my progress as an aspiring artist. My entire life I have wanted to be an artist and author. Even though I am hard on myself for believing that the best time to have started that was ten years ago, the second best time is today.

So, here we go! Are you with me? :)
